The VW T3, also known as the third generation Volkswagen Transporter or simply "Bulli", is a small van manufactured by Volkswagen from 1979 to 1992. It is the successor to the VW T2 and was available in various body styles, including Transporter, Estate, Caravelle, Multivan and Camper.
The VW T3 was available with a variety of petrol and diesel engines. The gasoline engines included air-cooled boxer engines such as the well-known 1.6L and 2.0L, as well as water-cooled engines such as the 1.9L water boxer. The diesel engines included various versions of the water-cooled 1.6L and 1.9L diesel engine.
The VW T3 was offered with various transmission types, including manual transmissions with 4 or 5 speeds and automatic transmissions.
The VW T3 was offered in various body styles, including the Transporter with a closed loading area, the station wagon with windows on the sides, the Caravelle as a luxury version, the Multivan with a versatile interior and various camping versions such as the Westfalia Camper.
Although the VW T3 is considered robust and reliable, some common problems can arise, including rust in critical areas such as wheel arches and underbody, engine problems such as leaking head gaskets or fuel supply problems with diesel engines.
Regular maintenance is crucial to maintaining the lifespan and performance of your VW T3. This includes regular oil changes, inspections of the engine, brakes and chassis, as well as checking and, if necessary, replacing wear parts such as brake pads, spark plugs and filters.
Although some parts for the VW T3 may no longer be available directly from Volkswagen, there are a variety of manufacturers and dealers that offer replacement parts and accessories for the VW T3. From Kiel, take the A7 towards Hamburg, change the motorway at the Hamburg Südwest motorway junction to the A261/A1 towards Bremen and take the Dibbersen or Rade exit. You can reach us by train via Buchholz or Sprötze train station.
