The BusStation would not be complete if we didn’t have our own workshop, fully equipped with all the necessary special tools, in addition to our van rental service. Our in-house mechanic from Germany has over 20 years of professional experience, especially in the field of classic car restoration. Highly motivated, with great attention to detail and the best spare parts, he breathes new life into any T3 van, no matter how rusty. And thanks to his creativity and high quality standards, everything from accident repairs to special conversions and unusual special requests are possible.
And thanks to our proximity to Bilbao airport, you can combine your van restoration with a relaxing road trip through northern Spain. Just ask – we try to make everything possible!
T3-Restoration: how it works
Before the work really starts, we take photos of the entire vehicle. After that, the complete disassembly is done: the entire interior as well as all reusable exterior parts are dismantled, labeled and stored. Damaged parts are replaced in this step, as well as all important seals, wear parts, screw connections and individual light bulbs.
Once all the necessary spare parts and repair panels are in place, work begins on the body. Often the first step, as soon as the interior is completely empty and gutted: the professional renewal of the lower sheet metal parts. This important step significantly increases the longevity of classic cars. Once every rust spot has been removed, renewed and welded, the filling and painting work begins. Before the car can then be reassembled in full working order, all internal surfaces (including all non-visible areas) must be carefully preserved with a special cavity sealer (brand: Mike Sanders), for the next decades.
For vehicles with a high roof, the roof must of course not be missing in a thorough restoration. This much in advance: it has to come off in any case – after all this time, none of them are properly sealed anymore. To do this, the outer (usually completely rusted anyway) old rain gutters and, to a large extent, the inner structure of the receptacle are completely removed and then replaced with original-quality spare parts. Afterwards, the high roof is again carefully bonded to the body all around with a special adhesive and sealing compound.
For a permanent renewal including a clean paint job, the roof should also be removed from buses with a folding roof and restored including the canvas.
At the end of the – admittedly sometimes very hard – work, you will have an almost new oldtimer, ready for the coming countless kilometers.
